Back in July of 2020 (and I hope you’ll forgive my for mentioning that annus horribilis) Mark Avery reviewed Roy Dennis‘ then recently published collection of nature essays titled Cottongrass Summer; a review in which Mark placed it beside Aldo Leopold’s classic book A Sand County Almanac in regard to his perception of both its “quality and worth.”

Now, as those of us residing upon the planet’s northern hemisphere are about to enter into the winter of 2021, Mr. Dennis has a second collection of essays – Mistletoe Winter – just published that continues in the vein of his previous aestival work. Not surprisingly, Mark is on top of it, or given the title, perhaps under it; in any case, he takes the book as his topic for his most recent Sunday book review this week.

Does Mistletoe Winter receive the same high praise from Mark that Cottongrass Summer received? Pop over to Mark’s review of it and see for yourself.

Links to Dr. Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are entirely his own.
