This Great Blue Heron, Ardea herodias, picked an old piling not far off shore in the Columbia River for a perch for the night. Even though the evening’s weather was grey and overcast, even the small details of the beak come through clearly in this completely unretouched or post processed image.

Yowza! Look at that detail! I need to find some money under a golden stump or at the end of a rainbow and buy some of that equipment. WOW!
