Items of Interest Worth Remembering
Back in March 2020, I published a review of Kelly Brenner’s then recently released book “Nature Obscura; a City’s Hidden Natural World.” It is a work by which I was – and still very much remain – much impressed by its overall concept, its content, and its writing style; which is why it continues to be one of the books I still commonly recommend to all seeking a book in which to loose themselves in the wonders of the natural world.
While Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” is likely a poem that most of us studied in our school years, it is not perhaps one that we actively think about as we go about our daily lives, or that we would necessarily reference in regard to matters of contemporary conservation or environmental ethics. However I suspect that I now shall be re-reading it, and in a much more nuanced and better informed manner since listening to the 4 March 2021 podcast episode of BBC Radio 4’s superb In Our Time program
Back in March of this year, just as the world as we know it came to a screeching halt, I brought word to you all about the then all-set-to-open Alexander von Humboldt and the United States: Art, Nature, and Culture exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as the remarkable book of the same name by Eleanor Jones Harvey that was published by Princeton University Press to accompany it. Needless to note – it didn’t open due to public health restrictions.
