What with the WildGuides imprint originally being a British publishing enterprise before joining Princeton University Press, it’s not surprising that their remarkably thorough and innovative field guides make their first appearances in the UK before being seen in the US. Such is the case with the forthcoming Britain’s Insects; A Field Guide to the Insects of Great Britain and Ireland by Dr. Paul D. Brock. Likewise, it isn’t particularly surprising that Dr. Mark Avery has already got hold of an advance copy and has made the book the subject of his most recent Sunday Book Review.

Dr. Avery’s overview of this forthcoming book is well worth reading. UK readers will be able to obtain copies for themselves in mid June; US readers should expect to be seeing it on book shop shelves in mid July.

Links to Dr. Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are his own.
