It occurred to me the other day that I hadn’t checked in with my friend Mark Avery since my collapse back in December. Doing so, I was very pleased to discover that he has been as busy and productive as ever, with a number of new book reviews added to his blog.

The most recent book he’s taken up is Roy Dennis‘ forthcoming Restoring the Wild: Sixty Years of Rewilding Our Skies, Woods and Waterways from William Collins. With a career in the ornithology and wildlife conservation that dates back to his time with the Fair Isle Bird Observatory back in the early 1960s and not letting up since, Mark very accurately described him as “a ‘name’ in ornithology and nature conservation.”

“It’s a wonderful book, steeped in knowledge and experience of nature and of the more practical ends of nature conservation” observes Mark in his review, “No-one else could write this book from personal experience – it’s a treat.” Be sure to visit Mark’s blog and read the entire review for yourself, as well as the many others he has recently posted there.

Links to Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are his own.
