There are times, such as have been these past few days, when I feel a bit like this less than successful image of a Western Gull, Larus occidentalis, I took in Astoria a few weeks ago. While I’m sure the gull had everything under control as it went from a smooth soar into a dive passing through this seemingly awkward pose in the process, the feeling conveyed by the image is one of being out of balance, almost out of frame, and seemingly with questionable likelihood of putting the horizon to right once again. Such times in life pass eventually, however they’re damned annoying until they do.

I know exactly the feeling, John, and am patiently awaiting for its passing.

I like these falling images of birds, John. I have many of my own, but I’ve never done much with them.
Even though the birds aren’t really falling, just caught at an unusual angle for an instant, it must be the contradiction between what I feel when I see them and what I know is actually happening.
I wish I looked as elegant when I fall.
