For his most recent Sunday Book Review, Mark shows his readers his Aurelian side.

No, not the sad, Berlin-bound Aurelian as depicted in Nabokov’s short story of that name; the joyous Aurelian, as in the great tradition of butterfly enthusiasts.

His book pick is the new second edition of Butterflies of Britain and Europe; A Photographic Guide by Tari Haahtela, Kimmo Saarinen, Pekka Ojalainen, and Hannu Aarnio, a team of four dedicated Finnish naturalists that specialize in macro photography (so you can justifiably expect that the photographs in this field guide will be superb).

Links to Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are his own.
