According to Gilbert Waldbauer, as recorded in his 2006 book "A Walk Around the Pond," there are some 450 species of Lepidoptera – all of which in this case are moths – whose caterpillars are either entirely aquatic (approximately 90 species) or semi-aquatic (the remainder).
