With the latter days of August upon us, many podcast producers are on holiday so the number of new episodes of many favourites has been somewhat limited. However a few new episodes were jotted down and are cited here.

New Books Network – Medieval History: Dr. Morteza Hajizadah interviews Prof. Michelle P. Brown about her 2023 book Bede and the Theory of Everything (Reaktion Books / University of Chicago Press). Part of the excellent Reaktion’s Medieval Lives series, this book presents the life and work of the early Medieval polymath in  way that is very accessible to a broad audience.

New Books Network – Science: Our old friend Dr. Morteza Hajizadah makes another appearance this week in this interview with Dr. Nicholas Spencer that takes the latter’s new book The Landscapes of Science and Religion; What Are We Disagreeing About? (Oxford University Press) as its subject. It must be noted that Dr. Spencer is the co-author of this book with Dr. Hannah Waite, who was not interviewed for the episode. As one who has a deep and abiding interest in both these areas, I found this to be a particularly interesting episode.

New Books Network – Medicine: Dr. Rachel Pagones interviews Dr. Agnes Arnold-Forster about her 2021 book The Cancer Problem; Malignancy in Nineteenth-Century Britain (Oxford University Press). As this is not only “the first history of cancer in nineteenth-century Britain” to be published but also a book that takes special care to include the experiences of many people from social demographics that are too often left out of the historical record, this is a book that all with an interest in the subject should take note.
