Earlier this month, Mark took Professor Dieter Helm’s new Green and Prosperous Land; a Blueprint for Rescuing the British Countryside as the subject for his Sunday book review.

Quite frankly, as Britain presently seems hell-bent on destroying itself at the present moment, I was very pleased indeed to discover that there is still anyone so optimistic as to think that it will even survive much less be able to be returned to a state of natural bounty and prosperity. However Professor Helm certainly seems to, and by Mark’s assessment, the book – while not perfect – is apparently worth reading.

Links to Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are his own.
