Lepidopterists rejoice! Seabrooke Leckie has proclaimed tidings of great entomological joy on her Facebook and Twitter profiles:

The Peterson Field Guide to Moths of WESTERN North America! I just signed and sent off the contract, so it’s semi-official. Assuming I meet all my deadlines, we’re looking at likely a fall 2022 release (though that’s subject to change).

This book is for the entire West. The mountains create longitudinal ecoregions, meaning given how we map there’d be a lot of redundancy in splitting the west into two books. I expect this book to be the same size or a shade longer than the southeast [guide] to accommodate the broader region.

She additionally noted that this third of her moth field guides will be entirely her own this time – her previous co-author needing to bow out due to other commitments – and that the expected total number of species will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,800 to 1,850.

Be assured, further information about this forthcoming (and long-awaited field guide) will be published here in The Well-read Naturalist as they are discovered.
